This West Des Moines project transformed an unused space into a large covered outdoor living area. The homeowner was preparing for his daughter’s fall wedding reception in the backyard and wanted a deck that could accommodate guests and connect multiple areas of the property.
Originally, there was no deck, only a miscellaneous room above a breezeway connecting the house to a two-story garage. The plan was to remove that structure and replace it with a covered deck that followed the home’s roofline. A second covered section was also added above the guest house over the garage, creating one large connected outdoor space.
Due to the timeline before the wedding, multiple Deck & Drive Solutions crews worked together to complete the deck structure, roofing, railing, and stairs in just eight days. Electrical was then added, including soffit lighting and four ceiling fans, followed by cedar car siding and trim on the ceilings.
The deck features TimberTechPVC-capped composite decking in Terrain Brown Oak paired with Westbury black aluminum railing. A TV was installed to complete the outdoor living area.
The finished project transformed the backyard and provided the perfect setting for the wedding reception, with many guests complimenting the new space.
